Own a Piece of Royal Caribbean History: Majesty of the Seas Listed for $40 Million
Ever dreamed of owning your very own cruise ship? If you’ve got a spare $40 million sitting around, you actually can. The former Majesty of the Seas has officially been listed for sale on YachtWorld. While the listing doesn't explicitly name the iconic vessel, all the stats and photos—right down to the classic Crown and Anchor logo embedded in the bottom of the pool—confirm it's indeed the last remaining Sovereign-class ship from Royal Caribbean's classic lineup.
When she originally debuted back in 1992, building her cost around $300 million (which translates to over $720 million in today's money). At a current asking price of $40 million, that's nearly a 95% mark-down. She was sold to Seajets in late 2020 and renamed Majesty of the Oceans, but hasn't seen regular passenger service since. If a buyer doesn't step up soon, she'll likely face the same scrapping fate as her sister ships, Sovereign of the Seas and Monarch of the Seas.
What This Means for Casino Royale Players
For longtime Casino Royale members, seeing Majesty of the Seas on the market brings back a ton of nostalgia—and a reminder of how much casino gaming at sea’s changed over the last three decades.
- A Blast from the Past: On older vessels like Majesty, the casino was much smaller and more cozy compared to today's massive, multi-level gaming floors on Oasis and Icon-class ships. If you played on her back in the day, you remember a simpler time for earning tier points and tracking play.
- Earning Points on Modern vs. Classic Ships: Today’s modern megaships pack in hundreds more slot machines and table games, offering far higher capacity for Casino Royale members to grind for Prime or Signature status. Smaller ships offered fewer choices, but often delivered a much more intimate, friendly vibe with the casino staff.
- Impact on Fleet Offers: As Royal Caribbean phased out its smaller, classic tonnage in favor of giant vessels with expansive, revenue-generating casinos, the types of free cruise offers sent to players shifted dramatically. Today's comp offers focus heavily on larger ships that can easily host thousands of casino guests while offering dedicated non-smoking gaming areas and high-limit rooms.
It’s always a bit bittersweet to watch classic ships reach the end of their run, but it’s amazing to reflect on how far Royal Caribbean’s onboard gaming experience’s come since Majesty first set sail.
